ihateearth use grid, but not too much - to make jumps smooth, ride on them then press space bar when you want to make a landing, put the landing a little bit under where the bike is - dont use boosts that much - put slo-mos only where there are small jumps and small airtime - enough checkpoints and stars, but not too many, and put them where you will definitely go, like at the ends of the take offs for jumps, or in the middle of a long flat stretch - hope that helps
