Trap-jaw ants are a genus of omnivorous ants found in the tropics and subtropics throughout the world. They are called trap-jaw ants because they have a large, straight set of mandibles that can open up to 180°. They accelerate at 100,000x the force of gravity and snap shut at around 145 mph.
